Mentoring Plans (Chapter II.D.2.I(i)) One page, Supplementary Document; Describes mentoring to be provided to all postdoctoral associates/scholars or graduate students supported by the project; Separate plans are NOT required for postdocs and/or graduate students, but plans may specify how different components will be enacted for the two types of researchers. Activity examples include, but are not limited to: Career counseling Proposal preparation Publications and presentations Guidance on improving teaching or mentoring Effective collaboration in diverse teams Training in responsible professional practices Individual Development Plans (IDPs) (Chapter VII.B.7) Each postdoc and graduate student receiving substantial support (defined as 1 person-month per year or more*) from an NSF award must have an IDP; Maps the educational goals, career exploration, and professional development of an individual; Must be updated annually; Certification by PI required in annual and final progress reports NSF will not provide a standard IDP template or form. Commonly applied instruments may be used. * One person month is generally defined by NSF as any graduate student who is supported for more than: i. about 1/2 semester at “full” support associated with approximately 20 hours/week commitment ii. about 1 semester at “half” support associated with approximately 10 hours/week commitment WU Mentoring Resources Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research Academy of Educators (IDP sample) Center for Teaching and Learning HR Individual Development Plans A&S Mentoring Your Way DBBS Mentorship Training (bottom of page) Mentor Training for Postdocs Graduate Student Career Development Postdoc Professional Development McKelvey Pre-Award PI ToolBox (WUSTLKey protected and for McKelvey faculty/staff only) McKelvey-specific resources under development External Mentoring Resources MyIDP from Science Careers National Research Mentoring Network Online Ethics Center (OEC) for Engineering and Science The Science of Effective Mentoring in STEMM AAMC Framework for Aligning Postdoctoral Mentor-Mentee Relationship NSF 101: The Postdoctoral Mentoring Plan University of Michigan Faculty Committee on Mentoring (MORE) (Mentoring Templates) The Mentor’s Dilemma: Providing Critical Feedback Across the Racial Divide Mental Health Crisis in Graduate Education: The Data and Intervention Strategies Workshop: NSF’s New Mentoring Requirements for Graduate Students Students & Postdocs NSF Mentoring Requirements for Proposals Graduate Student Funding Opportunities Postdoctoral Funding Opportunities Training for Students and Postdocs Career Development for Students and Postdocs Proposal Tools for Faculty Initiate a Proposal McKelvey Pre-Award Services & Support policy PI Pre-Award ToolBox WU Grants Library Events Office of Research Development & AdministrationMcKelvey School of EngineeringOne Brookings DriveCampus Box 1138-0206-02St. Louis, MO [email protected] Us ©2024 Washington University in St. Louis
