Along with zebrafish (D. rerio), we study several other model systems, including the fruit fly (D. melanogaster), nematode (C. elegans) and mouse (M. musculus), as well as tissue culture systems and embryonic stem cells. By combining experimental advantages of these animal and tissue culture models, along with the knowledge from human genetic and genomic studies performed across the university, we can effectively address key questions about human development, physiology, birth defects, disease and aging.
