Programs with Assigned Mentorship Mentorship selection works differently for each training program. The CRTC will match scholars with their mentors for the following programs: ASPIRE Program Mentors must meet all of the following requirements in order to be considered for approval: Current WU faculty Time to dedicate to mentee: mentees will be undergraduate students exploring clinical research for 8 weeks in the summer (between June 1-July 31) Desire to be a mentor and willingness to write a letter of support. Must have active and ongoing research for mentee to be able to complete a key aspect of a research project that will lead to potential co-authorship on abstracts and papers. STEP-UP Program (R25) Mentors must meet all of the following requirements in order to be considered for approval: Time to dedicate to mentee: mentees will be undergraduate students exploring clinical research for 10 weeks in the summer (full-time), and potentially during the academic year (part-time). Must have active and ongoing research for mentee to be able to complete a key aspect of a research project. Must be faculty at a U.S. institution. Must be willing to attend virtual mentor training, and complete a mentor/mentee agreement. All Other Programs The following programs require applicants to establish a relationship with a mentor before applying: K12 Career Development Program for Clinical Oncology Mentors must meet all of the following requirements in order to be considered for approval: A long-standing track record of successful, independent research. Must have already obtained their own funding (R01-equivalent funding from NIH, AHRQ, CDC, NSF or other funding agencies). Successful record of mentoring trainees in academic careers. Time to dedicate to a mentee. Desire to be a mentor and willingness to write a letter of support. A mentor may be approved only after the program director has received and reviewed the mentor’s Biosketch, Other Support Form and Trainee Table. K12 Career Development Award Program in Substance Use and Substance Use Disorder Mentors must meet all of the following requirements in order to be considered for approval: A long-standing track record of successful, independent research. Must have already obtained their own funding (R01-equivalent funding from NIH, AHRQ, CDC, NSF or other funding agencies). Successful record of mentoring trainees in academic careers. Time to dedicate to a mentee. Desire to be a mentor and willingness to write a letter of support. A mentor may be approved only after the program director has received and reviewed the mentor’s Biosketch, Other Support Form and Trainee Table. A mentor may be approved only after the program director has received and reviewed the mentor’s Biosketch, Other Support Form and Trainee Table. Mentored Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI) Mentors must meet all of the following requirements in order to be considered for approval: Be an Associate or full Professor. Infectious Diseases/Basic Microbial Pathogenic Mechanisms (ID T32) Mentors must meet all of the following requirements in order to be considered for approval: A track record of successful, independent research. Must have already obtained their own funding (R01-equivalent funding from NIH, AHRQ, CDC, NSF or other funding agencies). Successful record of mentoring trainees in academic careers. Time to dedicate to a mentee. Desire to be a mentor and willingness to write a letter of support. A mentor may be approved only after the program director has received and reviewed the mentor’s Biosketch, Other Support Form and Trainee Table. TL1 Predoctoral Program Mentors must meet all of the following requirements in order to be considered for approval: A long-standing track record of successful, independent research.
