Although the risk level has reduced as vaccination rates increase, new surges in infection remain possible in part due to the community prevalence of new, more transmissible viral variants; therefore, the need for new research continues. The Washington University Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences coordinates Washington University COVID-19 research activities in order to prioritize, promote, and actively support the most promising studies, and enhance patient safety. All prospective interventional studies that plan to enroll inpatients at BJH or SLCH must submit a description of their work. Observational studies, non-interventional studies of minimal risk, and other specimen-collection or health record data studies no longer need to be submitted. Please view the COVID-19 Clinical Research page for more information about the submission of interventional clinical studies.
