The structure of the Department of Medicine includes: Divisions Composed of 19 subspecialty divisions, the Department of Medicine provides comprehensive general and subspecialty medical care, research and training focused on medical care of adolescents and adults. Wellness, health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment of common and complex diseases are provided by our faculty and trainees in inpatient and outpatient centers of excellence. Faculty, trainees, and staff in each division work to provide exceptional patient care, advance medical research, and educate future leaders in medicine in partnership with Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center (St. Louis). Learn more about each division Centers and Institutes The department’s affiliated centers and institutes accelerate multidisciplinary patient care, research, and education across a variety of disciplines and specialties. The Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS), housed in the department, excels in promoting clinical and translational research and research training. Numerous other research centers and institutes exist in the department and are led by medicine faculty. These centers and institutes provide outstanding resources and infrastructure to advance basic, clinical and translational research in cancer, genomics, immunology, informatics, infectious diseases, lung diseases, cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, autoimmune diseases, obesity, and diabetes. The Clinical Research Training Center advances our research and educational mission through didactic coursework, career development and clinical/translational training for predoctoral students, residents, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty. In 2016, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity in the Department of Medicine was established to accelerate change and promote equity and a more diverse and inclusive culture and climate by providing education, resources, specialized programs and career development for faculty, staff and trainees. Programs include the Forum for Underrepresented in Medicine (FURM) and OUTMed, leading our LGBTQIA and allyship programs. The department also provides programs and group activities to support and advance women in medicine.
