Allergy and Immunology Chief: Peggy Kendall, MD The division&＃8217;s goal is to provide the finest care for patients with allergic and immunologic diseases, train and develop future clinicians and scientists, and foster a quality research environment. The division strives to be at the forefront regionally and nationally for clinical care and research to help those suffering with allergic and immunologic diseases. Learn more about the Division of Allergy and Immunology Bioorganic Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology Chief: Richard W. Gross, MD, PhD The division brings together elements of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics to describe and understand biological and chemical cellular processes and enhance drug discovery. Bone and Mineral Diseases Chief: Roberto Civitelli, MD The division is advancing knowledge of skeletal biology through cutting-edge research, providing advanced care to patients with osteoporosis and other metabolic skeletal disorders, and preparing the next generation of scientists and physicians focused on skeletal metabolism. Learn more about the Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases Cardiology/Cardiovascular Diseases Chief: Sumanth Prabhu, MD The division delivers high quality cardiovascular care to a large, diverse patient population with simple and complex cardiovascular disorders. The clinical excellence of the division is reflected by their consistent high ranking in U.S. News & World Report. Learn more about the Cardiovascular Division Dermatology Chief: Lynn A. Cornelius, MD The division’s mission is to be the national resource for excellence in dermatology in the education and training of physicians and research investigators, new discoveries in cutaneous biology, and the treatment of skin diseases and disorders. Learn more about the Division of Dermatology Endocrinology/Metabolism/Lipid Research Chief: Clay F. Semenkovich, MD The division offers patients the latest in diagnostic and treatment options for endocrine and metabolic disorders such as thyroid diseases, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and osteoporosis. By performing basic and clinical research, the division seeks to pave the way for new advances and operates one of the nation’s top training programs for this subspecialty. Davidson, MD For over 40 years, the division has been involved in the treatment, research and training of diseases of the digestive tract. The division has a diverse research base with a number of faculty conducting basic and clinical investigation into a wide range of digestive disorders. Evanoff, MD, MPH The division performs patient-oriented research in clinical epidemiology, health outcomes, health decision making, biostatistics and areas related to health behavior. Division faculty offer research training in epidemiology, health outcomes, health behavior, research ethics and research design. Learn more about the Division of General Medical Sciences General Medicine & Geriatrics Chief: Bradley A. Evanoff, MD, MPH The division aims to provide the highest caliber training to internists in the early stages of their careers, either as research oriented physician-scientists, clinical oriented researchers or practicing internists. The division’s goal is to prepare young doctors to be leaders in both the national and international community. Through six residency pathways, residents will be able to pursue their medical interests and plan for their future careers. Learn more about the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics Hematology Co-Chiefs: Elaine M. Majerus, MD, PhD and Stephen T. Oh, MD, PhD The Division of Hematology once encompassed the field of oncology until 1994, when a separate Division of Oncology was established. Throughout its history, members of the Division of Hematology have made important contributions to our understanding of blood diseases. The division has trained more than 200 clinical fellows, as well as numerous graduate students and postdoctoral research fellows, many of whom have become leaders in academic medicine. Learn more about the Division of Hematology Hospital Medicine Chief: Mark Williams, MD One of the first in the nation, the Division of Hospital Medicine provides the highest quality medical care to roughly half of all internal medicine patients at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The division faculty also provide attending coverage and have led or participated in many of the quality improvement efforts surrounding patient care at the hospital. Philips, MD, PhD The division’s mission is to provide outstanding patient care, conduct ground-breaking research and train the next generation of leaders in academic medicine and infectious diseases. The division has a clinical section, which manages the patient care, graduate and post-graduate medical education, and clinical research and basic sciences research mission, that shares responsibility for the educational program. The division has consistently been at the forefront of advancements in renal care, transplantation and nephrology research since it was founded in 1956. Learn more about the Division of Nephrology Nutritional Science & Obesity Medicine Chief: Samuel Klein, MD The division is committed to promoting the independence and well-being of older adults through excellence in clinical care, teaching and research. Faculty in the division perform cutting-edge basic and clinical research in studies of nutrition, metabolism, obesity and aging. The division also provides training to resident physicians, medical students and fellows in the most effective care of the elderly. Link, MD The Division of Oncology is intimately linked with the Division of Hematology, which encompassed the field of oncology until 1994, when a separate Division of Oncology was established. The division features general oncologists as well as subspecialists focusing on basic and clinical research in a variety of cancers such as lung, skin, breast and brain, as well as molecular oncology and palliative care. In keeping with their mission, the division improves symptom management and supports the best quality of life for patients and their families through specialized, interdisciplinary clinical care, education and research. Learn more about the Division of Palliative Medicine Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Chief: Janet S. Lee, MD The division is committed to providing excellent clinical care and advancing the field of pulmonary and critical care medicine through research and the education of the next generation of leaders. The division provides clinical coverage for a variety of pulmonary services and conditions, including general pulmonary consults, lung transplant, cystic fibrosis and pulmonary vascular disease. Learn more about the Division of Rheumatology Veterans Affairs Chief: Carlos Bernal-Mizrachi, MD The division encompasses the Department of Medicine’s long-standing affiliation with the St. Louis Veterans Affairs Medical Center for the purpose of providing patient care, education and research. Department of Medicine physicians provide inpatient and outpatient care through the VA St. Louis Health Care System which includes the John Cochran and Jefferson Barracks divisions and various outpatient clinics.
