Weil and Joan Hall-Weil Fund for Art History. We owe this generous support to our retired colleague and past Chair of the department, Mark S. Weil, E. Desmond Lee Professor Emeritus in Arts & Sciences, and his wife Joan Hall-Weil, the Kenneth Hudson Professor Emerita in the College of Art, Sam Fox School of Design. This fund will be used to support graduate students in dissertation research and professional development, and faculty doing innovative collaborative work within the academic and museum communities, with three graduate students and two faculty receiving awards in 2020. The 2019 recipient of the Weil Dissertation Research Award, PhD candidate Lindsay Sheedy, was able to do critical dissertation research in Italy as a result of this gift. Reflecting upon her experience, Lindsay says "The Weil Dissertation Research Award did more than support two months of research in Italy: it facilitated opportunities and relationships that have been and will continue to be foundational to my development as a scholar for years to come." Lindsay is a 2020-2021 recipient of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation/Donald and Maria Cox Rome Prize in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies, and is currently a fellow in residence at the American Academy in Rome.
