Patients often have questions about how cancer will impact them and their families, and may feel overwhelmed by all of the changes that come with beginning treatment and possibly staying in the hospital. The Barnard Health and Cancer Information Center, or BHCIC, is available to help Siteman patients navigate their cancer journey by providing information about a range of topics, from coping with chemotherapy to finding parking on our campus. We strive to be a peaceful, restful area where patients and their families can relax. We also distribute resources such as nutritional supplements and head coverings. Our office houses the Concierge Services for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and we partner with them to deliver prompt, accurate information to our visitors. At the BHCIC, staff members will speak with you to assess your needs. Cancer patients are often inundated with information, much of it irrelevant to their specific circumstances. Our staff will tailor information to you in order to assist you more effectively. Resources One of the primary goals of the Barnard Health and Cancer Information Center is to help patients learn how to cope with the challenges of undergoing treatment for cancer. The informational literature we provide is not as focused on medical treatments as the literature you probably receive from your care team. Instead, our focus at the BHCIC is to teach patients how to fit their treatments into their lives. Some of the main topics covered in our brochures include: Cancer prevention Early detection, diagnosis and treatment Complementary and alternative medicine Survivorship Palliative care Community resources Cancer support groups, such as the Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis Our other on-site resources include: A Concierge Services business center, consisting of two computers with Internet access, a fax machine, and other devices Free coffee Notary services Ensure nutritional supplement (for those who qualify) Location Lobby of the Center for Advanced Medicine 4921 Parkview Place St. Louis, MO 63110 Phone 314-362-7844 Fax 314-362-1904 Hours The BHCIC is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Concierge Services Based in the BHCIC, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Concierge Services strives to make your experience at our treatment center as easy as possible.
