Learning law and public health frameworks, JD/MPH are equipped with a unique set of skills to bring evidence-based recommendations to policy, judicial opinion and legal representation. Graduates enter careers dedicated to making significant change in addressing health inequities and disparities. Program Overview The accelerated program requires the completion of 120 credit hours, typically taken over four years. You’ll enroll in three semesters at the Brown School’s MPH program. The MPH curriculum utilizes a health equity lens to examine and address the most pressing public health issues. In courses focused on advanced quantitative analysis, you’ll learn to assess data in order to bring evidence-based recommendations that best serve your client. You’ll advance your ability to understand and utilize complicated data sets, preparing to shape the future of health policy through data-driven decisions. A signature of our program is a commitment to transdisciplinary problem solving; coursework recognizes that the most pressing issues in public health will require cross-sectoral collaboration, and our students practice building strong and multi-faceted solutions Five semesters will be spent at the School of Law, where you’ll focus on ethical and effective practices in law and advocacy. Through coursework and renowned clinical opportunities, you’ll have the opportunity to prepare for your unique area of legal interest—including Environmental Law, Labor and Employment Law and Social Justice & Legal Theory—among others. There is flexibility in how students sequence the JD/MPH program, and students can begin the program in either school. Application Instructions Students interested in the JD/MPH dual-degree program must apply separately for both programs and be admitted into both. You will select a site from the Brown School’s 400+ partner agencies. JD/MPH students may complete their practica at locations such as: Planned Parenthood, Policy Department St. Louis County Department of Public Health, Policy Department ArchCity Defenders St. Louis Board of Aldermen Career Outcomes Graduates of the JD/MPH are well-prepared for careers in fields such as: Addressing global health issues through organizations such as the UN and WHO Advocating for health equity-informed solutions to health disparities Implementing health policy at federal or state levels on cutting-edge issues ​JD/MPH CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS: 120 CREDIT HOURS You’ll enroll in 77 credit hours at the School of Law and 43 credits at the Brown School. Your MPH curriculum includes a foundation public health sequence, then moves into advanced courses such as: TRANSDISCIPLINARY PROBLEM SOLVING (TPS) COURSES: You’ll enroll in two TPS courses. Past offerings have included: TPS: Policy Making, Advocacy and Analysis in the U.S. Legislative System TPS: Eliminating Health Disparities TPS: Climate Change and Public Health SKILL LABS: You’ll enroll in three skill labs to develop high-demand skills, such as: Statistical analysis software, such as R, STATA and SAS Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping Grant writing Leadership & Management (required) DATA, RESEARCH & EVALUATION: Research Methods Planning, Implementation and Evaluating Evidence-Based Programs and Interventions Applied Linear Modeling Learn more about the: MPH curriculum and the JD Curriculum. JD/MPH Faculty ChairLinda Raclin, associate professor of practice, focuses her research on health policy, health care access and health disparities. She is active in reproductive health care issues for women in Missouri and throughout the nation.
