As a dad of two toddlers, I cannot stress enough the importance that this has had for us in the time we have spent here, both personally and professionally – including through the pandemic. There are playgrounds and parks everywhere in our area and they are incredibly well maintained. The museums are free. The zoo is free. The botanical gardens are free. The Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis is located steps from the medical campus, where our department is located. Another game changer for us has been the affordability of the St Louis area. Coming from a 1-bedroom basement apartment that we rented in Boston, and now watching our kids chase our chickens in our quarter-acre backyard, surely makes a difference in your quality of life.
