Global Practicum Guidelines and Application Through a multi-step guided process, students work with faculty and staff to find an international practicum site where students can further their understanding of global practice. Students in the MSW International Social and Economic Development concentration, the MPH Global Heath specialization, or an individualized globally-related concentration are able to do a practicum with an organization practicing outside of the U.S. Selected students doing international practicum may also have access to Khinduka funding to help cover travel and living expenses during their time abroad. For more information on the Global Practicum process, please contact Tammy Orahood, Director of Global Programs at [email protected]. Student Experiences Li Weiwei, MPH 2024 Practicum with Maji Safi Group in Tanzania The experience of working with Teenagers on Menstrual Hygiene Health was a great exploration for Weiwei because she found out that most of them didn’t know how to use sanitary pads so teaching and engaging with them was a great opportunity. Maji Safi means clean water in Swahili so their aim is to provide safe water to local communities, Hands should carry dreams not Disease is the theme of the organization. Lisa Hayes, MSW 2019Practicum with Los Aliados in Ecuador My practicum with Los Aliados was extremely helpful to put the theory and skills learned in my social work classes and see them applied in the field – giving context and real-world challenges within international development. Melanie Goldring, MSW 2019Practicum with the DREAM Projectin the Dominican Republic Through my time at the DREAM Project, I learned that it’s important to celebrate small victories and recognizethat small actions or small projects really are the building blocks for long-term solutions. Brennan Keiser, MSW 2019Practicum with Nancholi YouthOrganization in Malawi One of my most memorable moments was working with the NAYO team to develop a proposal for a new Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) program. I appreciated that it was a joint effort and they were investing so much time into creating a survey, developing goals and thinking through evaluation plans.
