Student Outcomes Profiles Yining Huang Favorite Course Project Mgt Hometown Changzhou China BBA (SCM) Michigan State Career Ready Career Interests As an international student from China, I’m intrigued by the phenomenon of global procurement, which sources products and services from suppliers around the globe. Procurement is a critical component of the supply chain, driving cost-savings, improving operational efficiencies and enhancing the quality of goods and services by sourcing the right products and services at the best price. Work in this field also offers the chance to gain a global perspective on business and learn about different cultures and markets. Why Olin? The supply chain management program is not only comprehensive—the curriculum includes logistics, procurement, operations and supply chain strategy—but also designed to prepare students for careers. St. Louis has a strong business community, and students can engage with local businesses, attend events and build a professional network. Favorite Course Professor Sergio Chayet’s project management class was amazing. We engaged in fascinating case studies of complex projects using a management-simulation game that Professor Chayet devised himself. The class also benefited from the cohort of bright students with diverse backgrounds, which included doctoral candidates who participated in class discussions. Career Support Olin has career coaches dedicated to Specialized Master’s programs, all of whom are friendly and ready to help students with one-on-one assistance with resume-editing and practicing job interviews. I found an internship in my second semester following online and in-person interviews. I’ve been working for the company ever since. I count myself the luckiest guy in the world! Networking and Events Supply chain management requires keeping up with industry trends. Attend events like conferences, panels and seminars; take advantage of meeting with alumni and industry professionals who appear as guest speakers; and attend career fairs. Wherever you can, gain hands-on experience, using resources like the Boeing Center at Olin.
