This is required of all faculty, staff and students at Washington University. Undergraduate students are required to complete the MEMS 1001 class before testing. Once the in-person test has been passed you will be given approval to use that equipment. This process begins by passing the Machine Shop proficiency and safety trainings. The button below will allow you to self-enroll for the training. Machine Shop Equipment Training If you have passed the appropriate training modules for CNC equipment  in Learn@Work.  You can now sign up for training in the Spartan light Metal Advanced Machine Shop Advanced Machine Training Urbauer Student Machine Shop Hours Monday thru Friday: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Extended Hours: Monday thru Friday: 4:30 PM to 10 PM Saturday and Sunday 10 AM to 8 PM Extended hours are by an approved reservation only and reserved to club teams, with an approved shop monitor. Reserve equipment Contact Shop Staff The McKelvey School of Engineering Student Machine Shops are facility’s that provide students the training and opportunity to learn and practice hands-on manufacturing techniques in a safe and supervised environment. Students that have completed the MEMS 1001 class, and safety testing, are approved to work in the shop during supervised times. We also offer instructional support to students, faculty and staff from the School of Engineering, as they work on class projects, research, and student club team design competitions. The Urbauer machine shop is equipped with Drill Presses, Band Saws, Pedestal Grinder, Mig and Tig Welders, Sheet Metal Equipment, Manual Mills and Lathes, CNC Mills and Lathe. The Jubel machine shop is equipped with 3 Axis CNC Vertical Machining Centers, 4 Axis CNC Vertical Machining Center, Bed Mill, CNC Lathe, Tool Room Lathe, Pedestal Grinder, and a Band Saw.  Both shops have a CAD/CAM program to aid the students in machining complexed parts.
