Our ScholarsRoster of RecipientsScholarship VideoCreate a ScholarshipThe Scholars in Arts & Sciences effort began in the fall of 1985 with the support of twenty farsighted friends, and by 2008 that number had grown to several hundred. Still, the need was great. The 2009 announcement of Opening Doors to the Future: The Scholarship Initiative for Washington University Arts & Sciences began a five-year effort to raise $33 million to support undergraduate and graduate students in Arts & Sciences. As part of Leading Together: The Campaign for Washington University, the Arts & Scieinces scholarship program raised an astonishing $93 million, far exceeding our original $66 million goal. Our success so far is a testament to the generosity of our alumni and friends, and the efforts of dozens of volunteers around the nation. The Arts & Sciences Scholarship Program now houses 527 scholarships, supporting 643 exceptional students. Scholarship support allows some of the best students in the world to attend Washington University. Young alumni, who have graduated within the last five years and who are below the age of 35, can establish an annual named scholarship with a gift of $2,500. Annual named scholarships can be created with a gift of $5,000. Endowed named scholarships can be created with a gift of $100,000 paid over up to five years. Planned gifts, such as annuities and estate commitments, allow donors to create a legacy and make a gift that extends beyond their dreams and beyond their lifetimes. Named scholarships provide a way to honor family members, friends, faculty, or create a personal legacy; these awards can be selected for students with specific majors or from regions around the nation. Donors have the opportunity to meet their student scholars at the Scholars in Arts & Sciences Annual Dinner. 2021 Scholars in Arts & Sciences Three students tell their stories.
