The cost of attendance value is set by the Brown School and includes mandatory tuition and fees, along with the estimated cost of books, supplies, room, board, transportation, professional costs, and personal expenses. Domestic students may borrow up to the cost of attendance, but reducing living expenses and finding other funding sources can impact the need for these loans. Students are typically able to fund their degree through a combination of Brown School Scholarship awarded at the time of admission, external scholarships, part-time employment, personal savings, family support, and federal financial aid. Full-time graduate students on the Danforth Campus are automatically enrolled in (and billed for) the basic student health insurance plan at a cost of $2,500 &＃8211; unless proof of comparable coverage is provided from domestic students. International students are not eligible to waive out of the insurance plan and must pay the $2,500 insurance fee. For details about available plans or waiving options, visit Student Health Services. Federal Financial Aid and FAFSA Domestic students wishing to be considered for federal financial aid or federal work study must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is the student’s responsibility to complete all necessary documents and meet required deadlines. The FAFSA code for Washington University in St. Louis is 002520. If you are eligible for federal loans and work study based on your FAFSA results, the Office of Student Financial Services will offer a loan package up to the cost of attendance for that academic year. Students can accept, decrease, or decline their loan package based on their funding plan and other sources of funding. Tuition Policies Per credit hour students who are enrolled less than full-time (8 credit hours or less in the Fall or Spring semester) will be charged tuition on a per credit hour basis per semester. If a full-time student enrolls in hours that exceed the semester enrollment cap, the student will be charged additional tuition at the per credit hour rate for those additional hours. Students considering withdrawing from the Brown School are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor to discuss all options and assess the possible consequences to their academic record. They should contact the Assistant Dean for Academic Programs, as well as the Brown School Office of Financial Services. The timing of a withdrawal may have an impact on both academic credits and tuition charges. To withdraw, a formal procedure is required: Complete the Request to Withdraw form on Inside Brown. The effective date of withdrawal will determine the student’s grades and any tuition refund. Meet with the director of the Brown School Office of Financial Services, who will advise the student regarding tuition and financial aid implications. Students who withdraw after the tenth week of the semester must be approved by either Student Health Services or the Habif Health and Wellness Center. Withdrawals, if approved, will be determined by the Brown School Office of Financial Services.
