Student Outcomes Profiles Emily Hsu Education BS Psychology Hometown Fremont CA Minors Business and Biology Learning and Growing Love of Research  Being a PhD student (and eventually a professor) means being heavily involved in research that has the potential to fill in the many and various gaps in knowledge. There is beauty in research in that it continuously produces novel, even groundbreaking ideas. This speaks perfectly to my intellectual curiosity and love for learning and growing. I enjoy aiding the translation of research into practice through publishing in journals and teaching the next generation of scholars and workers.   Why Olin?   I was drawn to Olin because of the wonderfully talented and brilliant individuals in the Organizational Behavior department. Olin is home to many expert researchers whom I’ve admired, and I was enthusiastic about the prospect of learning from them.  Learning to Teach  One of the requirements for doctoral students in the organizational behavior area is that we must teach the undergraduate Negotiations course at Olin. I was nervous and felt daunted by even the thought of being a professor to an entire class. Though teaching was not without its challenges, I remain forever grateful for the experience, and my students from that class will always hold a special place in my heart for having been the first group of students I ever taught. As much as I helped them to all grow as negotiators, they helped me to grow as an instructor.   Supportive Faculty  As a PhD student, I collaborate with faculty on research projects and interact closely with them in seminars and at departmental events. Many faculty members have advised and mentored me selflessly with patient guidance, understanding and support. The journey to a PhD is long and often arduous, and I’m grateful to the Olin faculty members who have stood by my side.    The journey to a PhD is long and often arduous, and I’m grateful to the Olin faculty members who have stood by my side.    Contact Us Doctoral Programs Campus Box 1133-124-05 One Brookings Drive St. Louis, MO 63130-4899 [email protected] 314-935-6340 Office Hours: Monday–Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Apply Now Visit Us Request Info One Brookings Drive, St. Louis, MO 63130-4899 [email protected] 314-935-7301 News & Media Events Faculty Directory WashU Center for Career Engagement Washington University home Olin Links Sitemap Privacy Policies Title IX Accessibility ©2024 Washington University in St. Louis
