Langsdorf Distinguished engineer, educator and author, Alexander Langsdorf contributed significantly to engineering education at Washington University. A native St. Louisan, Langsdorf graduated from Washington University in 1898 with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering and from Cornell University in 1901 with a master of mechanical engineering. In 1910, he returned to Washington University and was named Dean of the School of Engineering & Architecture, serving until 1920 when he left to work in industry. In 1926, Langsdorf returned as Director of Industrial Engineering and was appointed Dean of Engineering again in 1928, a position he held until 1948. As professor of electrical engineering and dean for 30 years, he worked tirelessly for the advancement of new curricula, expansion of scholarship and loan funds and the development of engineering graduate programs.
