These groups include pregnant women, newborns, children, older adults, individuals with physical disabilities, African Americans and other ethnic minorities, people living in rural areas, and the LGBTQ communities. By increasing the engagement of diverse participants in clinical and translational investigation, we will aid in bridging the gaps in our knowledge of the longitudinal course of health and disease across the lifespan. Our efforts in integrating special populations inherently includes a team science approach. The ICTS works to encourage collaboration among researchers who typically work in age-related or disease-specific silos.
