Knowledge of the physical, cognitive, emotional and social changes that adolescents undergo, as well as the disease processes that occur during adolescence, is vital when caring for patients in this age group. Typical concerns for adolescents that we see include sexual and reproductive health concerns, depression, anxiety and eating disorders. Its full-time staff is supported by extensive experience in diagnostic and therapeutic services and special training. Our division has the distinction of being a NORD Rare Disease Center for Excellence. Learn more Hematology & Oncology The division offers a full range of clinical services for pediatric patients and draws from a population of more than 2 million in the greater St. Louis area, with additional referrals from surrounding Missouri, Illinois and throughout the Midwest. We care for more than 150 new oncology patients each year and evaluate more than 300 new hematology patients per year, resulting in more than 600 children who are actively followed and treated by the division. Learn more Hospital Medicine Our pediatric hospital medicine division is affiliated with the Washington University Medical Center and serves St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH), Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Progress West HealthCare Center, Memorial Hospital Shiloh and Memorial Hospital Belleville. The group is composed of board-eligible and board-certified pediatricians who are exclusively hospital-based. Patients referred for evaluation or management of a variety of other infectious diseases are seen in our general infectious disease clinics. Learn more Newborn Medicine The clinical services of the division are anchored in the 125-bed level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) that provides care to newborn infants born at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, as well as those transported by the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Transport Team from all over the U.S. and abroad. Learn more Rheumatology & Immunology Children with rheumatic disease or issues with immunodsyregulation are cared for by an experienced team of physicians, nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse coordinators. The care and evaluation of our patients is supported by a state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory which includes all available serologic and cellular testing for rheumatic diseases and immunodeficiencies. Additionally, the pediatric clinical immunology program at St. Louis Children’s Hospital provides the highest quality multi-disciplinary care for children with primary immunodeficiencies. This clinic is staffed by Washington University physicians and a dedicated nurse practitioner. Our clinic specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of primary immunodeficiencies that lead to increased infections and immune dysregulation. We offer a range of treatments including replacement immunoglobulin infusion therapy and evaluation for hematopoietic stem cell therapy.
