These efforts range from visiting classrooms, departments and on-campus groups to delivering presentations on public speaking, using PowerPoint or Writing the Research Paper; to co-designing workshops on specific writing topics or assignments; to working with students in a specific class, one-on-one or in small groups. Faculty, staff and students interested in collaborating with The Writing Center are welcome to contact us at any time. The Graduate Student Research Symposium The Graduate Student Research Symposium takes place every spring term. The symposium aims at a general academic audience, helping students develop the ability to speak to readers and listeners outside of their specific field, as academics often must. In concert with the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and the Graduate Student Senate, the Writing Center designed and ran two hands-on workshops to help students prepare for the symposium. The first session helped researchers adapt their discipline-specific abstracts for a larger, general academic audience. The second workshop offered guidance for successfully delivering a poster presentation. We later adapted this workshop series for undergraduate students in collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Research. Senior Printmaking Seminar In Lisa Bulwasky’s and Angela Malchionno’s senior printmaking seminar, students complete a senior thesis that includes their artwork and a research paper. Early in the semester, we visited the class to deliver a presentation on writing the research paper. Writing Center tutors later helped students with their essays. Meeting one-on-one with students in their own studios, tutors helped students brainstorm and develop ideas for their final papers. Sharing the Writing Center with Students We encourage faculty to pass our flyers out to students or to include language regarding our services in their syllabi, to help students become aware of the all the services the Writing Center offers. Find syllabus language here.  A video describing our services is also available for faculty to embed into Canvas course pages.
