How to apply Program Our Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship trains experts in the diagnosis and management of problems impacting fertility and the reproductive endocrine system. Our fellows are also trained to design and execute high-impact research in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Graduates of our program are leaders in all aspects of the clinical, surgical, and research fields. Year one Our faculty clinics draw from a large catchment area and therefore our patients’ conditions span the breadth of REI. Fellows see our patients one-on-one under the supervision of faculty physicians. The fellow also gains comprehensive experience in-office procedures. The first-year fellow is also heavily involved in the in vitro fertilization service. This includes participation in both the clinical and laboratory components of this program with responsibility for protocol assignment and cycle monitoring, and an in-depth experience in the performance of the technical aspects of in vitro fertilization including egg retrieval and embryo transfer. The fellow learns to manage complications that may arise from controlled ovarian stimulation and oocyte retrieval. During the first year, the fellow also chooses a research mentor and begins to develop a protocol for their thesis project – a requirement of ABOG board certification. Year two The second year of the fellowship focuses on completing the required research thesis. The fellow has minimal clinical responsibilities during this time thus allowing the fellow to maintain and sharpen their clinical skills while maximizing the research experience. Participation in a serious research program is important in developing special competence in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and in training future leaders in the field. Year three The fellow is expected to complete their research thesis while coming back to the office to hone their skills for independent practice. The third-year fellow has some flexibility to tailor their experience for their projected post-graduate path. Throughout all three years, the fellow participates in a variety of didactic sessions within the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
