We'll explore strategies to reimagine and to recharge poems, but we'll also pay attention to how literary and personal heritages revise our approaches to craft, to language. Influence spurs and modifies creative work, not only voice or subject matter, but also lineation, form, and imagery. We'll also discuss how contemporary literary trends alter creative work, in both positive and negative ways. Discussions will be shaped by weekly readings, which will include a memoir, poetry, translation theory, and craft essays. In addition, we'll read a few drafts of a recently published first book of poems. Weekly revision prompts will be tied to readings and classroom discussions.
