We are a translational/basic science laboratory devoted to understanding the transcriptional and epigenetic heterogeneity of head and neck cancer. By understanding the mechanisms underlying the growth, development and spread of these cancers, we hope to develop new diagnostics and therapeutics to treat this devastating disease. RESEARCH LAB TEAM PUBLICATIONS LAB NEWS OPPORTUNITIES Our Vision: To understand head and neck cancer As the sixth leading cause of cancer, head and neck cancers result in tens of thousands of deaths each year, demanding our energy, time, and resources until this disease is eradicated. We strive to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic tools to help us fight this devastating disease. Use the links above to learn more about our efforts. Our laboratory harnesses cutting edge technology using advanced sequencing techniques (e.g. single cell sequencing) along with a detailed understanding of biochemistry, cell biology, and animal models to characterize this challenging disease. While tremendous effort has laid the ground work for our current view of these devastating cancers, significant work remains to understand how these tumors function at the cellular level. A detailed understanding of what each cell in a tumor is doing can deepen our understanding of the behaviors and processes that result in poor patient outcomes. Our laboratory harnesses cutting edge technology using advanced sequencing techniques (e.g. single cell sequencing) along with a detailed understanding of biochemistry, cell biology, and animal models to characterize this challenging disease. Research in the Puram laboratory is generously supported by gifts and grants from both federal and private philanthropic agencies. However, the tech-heavy nature of our research and the need to use the most up-to-date techniques in fighting this disease requires significant financial resources.  With greater support, our work can reach new heights. If you wish to support our research with a gift, please contact Dr. Sid Puram or the the Development Office at Washington University School of Medicine to determine how your contributions can advance our cause and improve the lives of patients with head and neck cancer.
