Application Dates & Deadlines Applications materials due via ERAS: December 1, 2023 Interview dates: October 2023 – January 2024 National Resident Matching Program Tracks Applicants may apply for multiple programs in the NRMP. The 4-year Categorical Program (1353040C0) 18 positions Start Date: July 1, 2023 (orientation begins approximately two weeks before the program start date) The 3-year Advanced Program (1353040A0) 2 positions Start Date: July 1, 2024 (orientation begins approximately one week before the program start date) The 5-year Academic Scholars Advancement Program (ASAP) (1353040C1) 2 positions Start date: July 1, 2023 (orientation begins approximately two weeks before the program start date) How to Apply The Department of Anesthesiology participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Applications are processed through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). If you are a medical student, contact your dean’s office for application details. If you are an international student applying through ERAS, contact the ECFMG Office at [email protected] or call (215) 386-5900. If you are an international medical graduate, you are required to have ECFMG certification before applying to the program. We accept a variety of visas but cannot guarantee sponsorship. A complete residency application consists of the following, all of which are submitted through ERAS: Completed application through ERAS Personal statement Curriculum vitae Transcript from medical school Letter from the dean of your medical school At least three letters of recommendation, preferably one from an anesthesiologist. United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 and 2 scores OR Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) 1 and 2 scores. Step 3 scores will be considered if available. Applying to the Research Training Program(s) If you are interested in the Washington University Scholars Program (WU Scholars) or the Academic Scholars Advancement Program (ASAP), make sure that one of the letters of recommendation you upload to ERAS is from your thesis advisor or research mentor. In addition to the standard ERAS Application, please submit a one page statement to our Manager of Education Programs, Erin Wood, detailing your research background, possible future research interests, and an idea of your career plans. We also ask applicants to these programs to attend a special interview day that includes a detailed look at our department’s research projects, our trainees and scientists, and our infrastructure. Is there an attempt limit for either exam? We view the application as a whole and as such there is no minimum score requirement. However, we do require that you pass the exam on the first attempt. By the time of application, do I need to have completed USMLE 2 or COMLEX 2? Is there an attempt limit? You should make an effort to take the second exam prior to applying to our program. As above, passage on the first attempt is required. By the time of application, do you need us to be fully ECFMG certified? Yes. Do you have a program application deadline? If yes, what is the cut off date? Applications materials are due via ERAS by December 1, 2023. Do you have a time since graduation cut off? No. Is US Clinical experience required? If yes, how much and what type? While not required, it is definitely preferable. Do you sponsor the H1 visa? No. Do you accept the ECFMG-sponsored J1 visa? Yes. Do you have any specific requirements for Letters of Recommendation? It is preferable that at least one letter come from an anesthesiologist. Do you have any International Medical Graduates? Yes. The percentage of IMGs in our program is 16.6%.
