This includes educational activities within and between each of the department&＃8217;s four divisions, and contributions to educational programs of Washington University School of Medicine. Meet our team Residency Training Programs From anatomic pathology to clinical pathology to combined anatomic and clinical pathology and more, the Department of Pathology & Immunology Residency Training Programs span many areas of pathology, with options to suit all interests. Although initial training is highly supervised, we emphasize acquiring skills that will allow residents to function as confident, independent and highly-effective members of a health care team. Learn more Fellowship Training Programs Our Fellowship Training Programs are designed to prepare residency graduates for roles as clinical specialists and/or laboratory directors. We offer opportunities for specialized fellowship training in surgical pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, dermatopathology, pediatric pathology, neuropathology and various specialties in laboratory medicine, including transfusion medicine. These one- and two-year advanced training programs are fully accredited. We have an outstanding job placement rate thanks to the programs’ intensive training, large patient population and the opportunity to pursue groundbreaking research. Learn more Physician Scientist Training Program The Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP) in the Department of Pathology & Immunology is committed to training the next generation of physician-scientist leaders in anatomic and clinical pathology. The program focuses on providing support, mentorship, and research experience through the clinical and postdoctoral training years, culminating in a trainee who is highly competitive for investigator-track academic pathology faculty positions. Learn more Graduate Training Program The Department of Pathology & Immunology places a major emphasis on the training of graduate students. The graduate curriculum provides diverse opportunities for structured, supervised and independent learning. In addition, the research activities of our faculty are broad in scope, ranging from basic to translational. Learn more Postdoctoral Research The Department of Pathology & Immunology provides numerous opportunities for postdoctoral research. Important areas of emphasis include immunobiology, cell biology, microbial pathogenesis and the pathobiology of diabetes. Postdoctoral fellows apply directly to the head of the laboratory responsible. Postdoctoral fellows are supervised by the laboratory director, but are welcome to participate in a wide range of conferences and other academic activities offered by the department. Learn more Medical Student Education The Department of Pathology & Immunology has played critical roles in undergraduate medical education for many years. Our faculty organized and taught the first year Immunology Course in our legacy curriculum. It also organized and taught the year-long Pathology Course, which anchored much of the second year legacy curriculum. Our commitment and success in these areas was demonstrated by numerous teaching awards over the span of a few decades.
