Student Outcomes Profiles Justin Matthews Education Michigan State Hometown Madison AL Postgraduation DP Manager Entrepreneurial Spirit Industries of Interest The industries that excite me most are travel, technology and fitness. When I came to Olin, my goal was to find a role within an industry I’m passionate about. I’ll begin my postgraduation career at Southwest Airlines as a digital product manager. I’m excited that I’ll be seeing the world while working for a company that is growing and innovating. Why Olin? I wanted to go to a Consortium-member school. The Consortium is a national alliance of top MBA schools whose mission includes diversity and inclusion. I also wanted to study with Doug Villhard, academic director for entrepreneurship, whose classes have challenged me to “think big.” And Olin provides students with the opportunity to travel and study abroad, which turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Real-World Opportunities The Center for Experiential Learning’s classes are unlike anything else at Olin. You’re handed a real-world business problem and, working as a diverse student team, charged with finding solutions. The work is practical, and the projects are fascinating. I undertook two CEL assignments: One was developing a marketing plan for the Ecuadorian National Soccer Team. The other was preparing a forecasting report for New Balance, the running shoe company. To work with organizations that had only been distant consumer brands and to play a role in their marketing strategies was just incredible. Favorite Memory My best memory so far has been my trip to Charlotte, North Carolina, to watch a soccer match between Ecuador and Mexico. Through Olin’s Center for Experiential Learning, I joined a consulting team that helped Ecuador’s soccer team improve its marketing strategy. For the project, we met with the team’s management to identify its needs. It was an amazing experience for our group.   Olin provides students with the opportunity to travel and study abroad, which turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
