St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) is a Level I Pediatric Trauma center with 250 pediatric beds. St. Louis Children’s Hospital is one of the top pediatric transplant centers in the country and we are consistently ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the nation. Annually we receive approximately 275,000 patients, with around 50,000 of them coming by way of the emergency department. St. Louis Children’s Hospital is a 12-floor building situated in the heart of the Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) and Barnes‐Jewish Hospital campus. The medical campus is located in the historic Central West End community of St. Louis. We are within minutes of Forest Park, which is home to the St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Science Center, the History Museum, and the Art Museum. We are also a short distance away from the Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis Arch, and Laclede’s Landing. The major SLCH facilities include 14 operating suites, a 67‐bed neonatal intensive care unit, a 24‐bed PICU with 12 bed CICU and a six‐bed bone marrow transplant unit. Additional units moving into new space include the dialysis unit, wound services, burn center, therapy services, the sports medicine gym, and Ronald McDonald Family Room. The clinical services provided by the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at St. Louis Children’s Hospital include the provision of inpatient and ambulatory anesthesia for infants and children in the general operating rooms as well as other satellite locations such as radiology, radiation therapy, and the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Approximately 16,000 anesthetics are administered each year to children of all ages, surgical conditions, and severity of illness. All surgical subspecialties are represented, including cardiac surgery, transplantation, and major craniofacial surgery. We have recently expanded coverage of sedation services to include all diagnostic radiology procedures. We also provide a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic acute and chronic pain services, including both postoperative pain management and outpatient clinics. St. Louis Children’s hospital serves as the primary site for pediatric anesthesia training for anesthesia residents. Our division has twenty‐three full and part‐time board‐certified anesthesiologists. All of our anesthesiologists have faculty appointments in the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine. Our faculty have diverse training backgrounds with many having earned additional certifications beyond anesthesiology including pediatrics, emergency medicine, and medicine. Our research interests are primarily clinical and educational research.
