MIR is committed to providing our patients with wellness screening exams to ensure optimal health. 3D Screening Mammography A 3D screening mammogram is an X-ray image of your breast that helps in diagnosing breast disease. Screening mammograms check for breast cancers, noncancerous or benign tumors, and cysts before they can be felt. We offer this exam at multiple locations throughout St. Louis and the surrounding areas. Schedule your appointment online or call 855-SAFE-RAD. Bone Density (DEXA) Screening Bone density or DEXA scan is the gold standard for diagnosing osteoporosis, a disease that causes bone to become fragile and more likely to break. Using the DEXA assessment, a follow-up plan can help to slow or reverse the process.  This screening requires a physician referral. Cardiac CT Calcium Scoring A cardiac CT scan for coronary calcium is a non-invasive way of obtaining information about the presence, location and extent of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries—the vessels that supply oxygen-containing blood to the heart muscle. Calcified plaque signals the presence of atherosclerosis, a disease of the vessel wall, also called coronary artery disease (CAD). People with this disease have an increased risk of heart attacks. This screening requires a physician referral. Lung Cancer Screening Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. Some of these deaths could potentially be prevented by early detection through screening. Lung cancer often does not cause symptoms, which makes regular lung cancer screenings vitally important. Screenings also increase the likelihood of catching lung cancer in its earlier and more treatable stages. To find out whether you’re a candidate, visit: Siteman Cancer Center Lung Screening Program Missouri Baptist Medical Center Lung Screening Program This screening requires a physician referral. Virtual Colonoscopy Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. and incidence increases with age. Unlike a traditional colonoscopy, a CT colonography or “virtual colonoscopy” does not involve a scope or require sedation, and allows you to return to your daily activities immediately afterwards. Candidates include those who have had an incomplete colonoscopy, patients who are unable to tolerate a colonoscopy and those wishing to avoid sedation. This screening requires a physician referral.
