The Master of Science in Biostatistics and Data Science (MSBDS) is offered by the Institute for Informatics, Biostatistics and Data Science (I2DB) in the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. The School of Medicine is well-funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We seek those with undergraduate degrees in quantitative sciences (mathematics, statistics, computer science, informatics, biomedical engineering or a closely related field). “I chose WashU for the School of Medicine’s prestigious reputation. The sky is the limit with this degree.”Brittany Jackson, MS ‘18 Our 18 month, 42 credit hour program is designed to teach students how to review, analyze and interpret health data using statistical and data science approaches. Internationally renowned faculty from multiple disciplines, including Biostatistics, Genetics, Informatics, Medicine, and Public Health, will teach and mentor students providing opportunities for multidisciplinary approaches to their education. Our program offers a unique training experience that combines core data science learning in statistical and computational methodologies with practical training in real-world data analysis of cutting-edge biomedical and genomics research for a new generation of quantitative scientists. Students are immersed in hands-on learning to acquire skills in statistical programming, genetic epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, and biomedical data mining. Students will choose either a 6 credit hour internship or mentored research experience over the last two semesters of study to solidify their in class learning and its application. In addition, with the cutting edge biomedical research being highly funded by the National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies, part-time employment opportunities including Research Assistantships are frequently available throughout Washington University in St. Louis, including the Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics. Students may apply for these opportunities upon completing the first full-time summer semester. The university is located in St. Louis, Missouri, a culturally diverse, fun-filled and affordable city.
