Providers Newborn Medicine provides comprehensive and highly specialized intensive care for newborn infants with complications or premature delivery. Our newborn medicine team consists of over 30 neonatologists; nurses; pharmacists; respiratory therapists; speech, physical and occupational therapists; dietitians and social workers. In addition, pediatric surgical and medical specialists, including cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, neurologists and neurosurgeons, eye specialists, kidney specialists, genetic specialists and many others are available to consult on any diagnosis. Our neonatologists not only provide state-of-the art medical care for infants, they’re also conducting nationally and internationally recognized research to improve medical treatment and outcomes for premature and critically-ill infants. We provide care for the sickest newborn at the highest level. Our neonatology group provides coverage for newborns at the following BJC facilities: Missouri Baptist Medical Center Progress West Memorial East Barnes Jewish Hospital St Louis Children’s Hospital Clinical services include: Fetal Care Center – Our multidisciplinary team includes maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists, genetic counselors, therapists, social workers and nurse coordinators to provide continuity of care for complex prenatal diagnoses from the prenatal to postnatal period.  Neonatal neurology –National leaders in providing a neonatal neuro-critical service including facilities for 24/7 availability of video EEG monitoring and the latest MRI brain scans to evaluate brain development and injury. Use of therapeutic hypothermia, beginning during transport, as the standard of care to reduce the chance of brain injury in infants with poor transition or low Apgar scores after birth. The program is a collaboration between specialized neonatal neurologists and neonatologists to address all forms of neurologic conditions.  Congenital diaphragmatic hernia program – This program provides multidisciplinary care for children with congenital diaphragmatic hernia from the prenatal period through their NICU course and in follow-up after NICU discharge. We rank among the highest nationally for CDH survival.  Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) – This program supports ventilation and circulation for the heart and lungs for our most critically ill. Renal replacement program – This program provides care for newborns with congenital or acquired renal failure in conjunction with experts in pediatric nephrology and transplantation. Newborn Medicine Clinic –Our team integrates neonatologists, nutritionists, and therapy services for care and developmental follow-up of NICU graduate through age 5. CARE Clinic – The CARE Clinic offers prenatal care, substance abuse treatment, and extended postpartum support for pregnant women and their infants facing the challenges of an opioid use disorder. This is in conjunction with Obstetrics.                         Perinatal psychological health –Unique program to evaluate and treat psychosocial health needs of NICU mothers.
