During this combined pain medicine fellowship, the trainee will learn how to manage both acute and chronic pain ranging in age from neonates to the elderly. Learning Objectives Pediatric Acute Inpatient Service Objectives Rotation in pain management prepares the fellow to function as a consultant in pediatric acute pain, perioperative pain, and inpatient chronic pain. Learn the perioperative pain management of children to include opioid dosing, regional blockade, and the use of adjuvant pain medications. By the end of the rotation, you should be able to develop a plan for both acute and chronic low to moderate complex pediatric patients experiencing pain. Become familiar with different types of regional blockade that are different in children. Assist with daily round on the acute pain service to include blocks, writing orders, writing notes, coordination with other teams, and rounds. By the end of the rotation, be able to diagnose and manage common chronic pediatric pain problems. Consult and provide care for surgical, trauma, and other causes of acute pain. Pediatric Curriculum (approximately 6 months) Pediatric Chronic Clinic – fellows will spend 70-80 days in our outpatient pediatric chronic pain clinic. Inpatient Acute and Chronic Service – 4 weeks Headache Clinic – 1 week Pediatric palliative care – 2 weeks Adult Curriculum (approximately 6 months) Adult Chronic Clinic – fellows will spend 70-80 days in our outpatient adult chronic pain clinic. Inpatient Adult Acute Pain and Chronic Cancer Pain Service – 6-8 weeks *In addition to the above, there will be dedicated time spent with our psychologists, physical therapists, and physiatrists.
