Coursework provides an overview of the fields of hearing, deafness, language and speech, with opportunities to pursue in-depth study of acoustics, audiology, speech and language disorders or American Sign Language. This curriculum is especially valuable for students in fields like psychology, education, philosophy‐neuroscience‐psychology (PNP) and linguistics, but students of all majors are encouraged to consider the minor. Coursework completed as part of this minor can also be used to fulfill some prerequisites for graduate studies in audiology, deaf education and speech‐language pathology. The minor was invaluable in helping create opportunities for me to explore different fields and careers, and also in really understanding the nuances of human communication and the communities within speech and hearing sciences!Jane Zankman, MSDE (2020), Speech and Hearing Sciences Minor alumna (2018) Requirements A minimum of 15 semester hours of coursework is required, three (3) of which must be L12 234 Introduction to Speech and Hearing Sciences.
