Lee Thursday, June 27 | 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Brauer Hall, Room 3015 Burtrand I Lee, PhD, will present a special seminar on how to prepare a more competitve research proposal for Petroleum Research Grant programs at American Chemical Society with special attention to the review process. https://www.acs.org/funding/grants/petroleum-research-fund.html ; As we all are concerned with maintaining stable research support, we seek the best strategy for winning competitive research grants. It becomes imperative to better understand the evaluation process. Amid the ever-increasing competition, the most popular evaluation means is peer review. Such basic questions as how the peer review is carried out, how the reviewers select, what do the reviewers think when they encounter a research grant proposal to review, and what they like/don’t like are some of the questions that will be discussed. Other pertinent questions are expected to come from the listeners and participants.  Biosketch: Upon the completion of his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida in 1986, he joined the faculty of Ceramic & Materials engineering at Clemson University, South Carolina where he was a professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering and director of Nanofabritech® until December 31, 2008. In 1989 he has been Fulbright Professor at Norwegian Institute of Technology in Norway. In 1993 he spent a sabbatical year at Hitachi Research Laboratory as a Senior Visiting Researcher. In 2009 Dr. Lee was a BK-21 Professor of Chemical Engineering at Pohang Univ. of Science & Technology. His expertise and research interests are on new materials synthesis-structure-property relationship for future energy generation/storage. Dr. Lee has shared his research findings and discoveries in 170+ highly cited scholarly journal publications as well as via lectures and presentations globally. He was editor for several books on ceramic/polymer processing, and associate editor for Journal of Nanomaterials. He is now a member of editorial board for several international materials journals, Materials Research Society, and a fellow of American Ceramic Society. Dr. Lee has just retired from the Office of Research Grants, American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C. after 15 years of service for managing research grants in materials and surface sciences.   Event Type Seminar/Colloquia Schools McKelvey School of Engineering Department Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering Hashtag ##seminar Event Contact Young-Shin Jun Speaker Information Burtrand I Lee, PhD Clemson University, South Carolina Office of Research Grants Subscribe Google Calendar iCal Outlook Discussion Comment Review Photo No recent activity Watch This I'm Interested Invite Friends People Interested No activity yet One Brookings Drive St. Louis, MO 63130 Danforth Campus: 314-935-5000 Medical Campus: 314-362-5000 Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Flickr Our Schools Arts & Sciences Brown School McKelvey School of Engineering Olin Business School Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts School of Law School of Medicine Resources Directory Maps, Directions and Parking Campus Stores Job Opportunities The Source WUPD (Police) Emergency Information Share Events Submit your own event using our simple event submission form.
